Remove any burrs from the shaft, hub,and keyways, and thoroughly clean all the parts
The keyway on the shaft does not have to be aligned or of the same size for this purpose.
Measure the inside size across the keyway in the boss. Dimension (1).
Measure the size across the keyway on the shaft. Dimension (2)
Add dimension (2) and dimension (1).
Make an allowance for top clearance by subtracting another 0,10mm from your answer. This will give you the thickness of your key.
Measure the width of the keyway. This is larger than the width of the key.
Measure the length of the keyway. This is equal to the length of the key
Cut a suitable piece of key steel and file it square and parallel and to your calculated sizes.
File the ends round so they are square
Fit the key by using a ball pein hammer.
Check that there is clearance between the top of the key and the hub keyway. If necessary, file down the top of the key.
Try the hub over the key. It must be a light drive fit.
Tap the pulley over the key to the required position with a soft mallet.
