PPE: Examine and Wear Personal Protective Equipment

Every employee at a mine, while at the mine, must take reasonable care to protect their own health and safety, take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of other persons who may be affected by any act or omission of that employee.

Any person, who, by a negligent act or by a negligent omission, causes serious injury or serious illness to other persons at a mine, commits an offence

It is NOT your duty as an employee to use and take proper care of personal protective equipment and other health and safety facilities and equipment

A risk means the likelihood that injury or harm to persons will occur

Every employer at a mine must supply all necessary health and safety equipment and health and safety facilities to each employee; and maintain, as far as reasonably practicable, that equipment and those facilities in a serviceable and hygienic condition.

Place the hard hat on your head and ensure that it fits loose. If it is not a loose fit

Place the safety goggles / spectacles on your head and not in front of the eyes, resting on the bridge of the nose

Only wear the foot protection designated by your mine / shaft specific requirements

Insert the plug firmly into the ear ensuring that it seals the ear from loud noise

Fasten the safety belt / harness firmly and comfortably around your NECK
